Following the Pleasant Valley boys basketball game Friday, January 19, junior Hunter Snyder was recognized as a score standout of the week, among many other elite athletes.
The Spartans started the game with an 18-8 deficit against the Davenport Assumption Knights, and went into halftime needing a spark. Snyder took it into his hands to take over the game in the second half. Snyder was having no trouble finding the bottom of the net as he went 8 for 11 from the field and 3 for 3 from beyond the arc. Head coach Steve Hillman commented on Snyder’s energy for the team, “Hunter is very unselfish and is willing to be a defender and a passer if that is what is needed for us to be successful on a given night.” Friday night, Snyder took on a new role that was necessary for the Spartans 52-47 win.
Perhaps the most exciting highlight for Snyder was grabbing a steal and throwing down his first ever career dunk, adding 2 points to his personal 13-0 run. Soon after, Snyder went on to have a three-point play, giving the Spartans the lead they were looking for. Snyder stated, “My teammates found me open and my shot was falling. We didn’t have a lot of energy and I was trying to create that energy for our team.”
Personally, Snyder doesn’t feel his best attribute is his offense. “Defensively I think I contribute the most because of the energy I bring,” Snyder states. “The way I’m always talking and letting my teammates know I’ve got their back and I’m in position to help.” Among his scoring, Snyder added 4 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists for the Spartans.
The Spartans will continue working and hope to be playing their best basketball in late February.
