As of September 2017 Fortnite has swept over the gaming community as being the game that everyone is playing. Over the past seven months, the game has attracted millions of fans all around the world. From viewers on Twitch or Youtube streams to people playing the game, there is always a huge amount of players interacting with the community.
The first reason why Fortnite is such a big game right now is because it is free. “I started playing Fortnite because it is free,” said Pleasant Valley High School senior Jackson Fowler. Unlike other games that are similar to games such as PUBG or H1Z1, which have a price tag of at least 20 dollars, Fortnite is free. This makes the game available to people who might not have the money to spend on the high-cost games today.
Another reason why Fortnite has gotten so big is its availability. Since its release the battle royale version of Fortnite has been available on PlayStation, Xbox and PC. This allows for a much larger player base. PUBG, which is another battle royale game, started on PC then migrated to console after a while, preventing it from having the player base that Fortnite has to date. Also, as of March, 2018 Fortnite has released their game on mobile devices, holding the number one spot in the Apple App Store and Google Play. This makes it easy to even play the game while traveling on the go. Senior Vivek Joshi comments, “I play with my friends whenever and wherever, because even if I don’t have my laptop, I can just play on my phone.” The game even allows cross-platform play for the people who have friends that don’t have the same console as them.
The third reason is that it is designed almost perfectly. The game involves guns but doesn’t show any blood, which is usually a huge stop for parents allowing their kids to play games. Also, it never says someone dies in the game; instead it just says that they were eliminated. With its simple-looking map, it allows for people of all ages to play this game.
Lastly, the game is always changing. Almost every week Fortnite is getting something updated. These updates include new emotes, structures around the map and guns. Every update keeps this game fresh for people that have played this game for so long. As well as having updates to improve the game they are always making new game modes for people to play.
The game stays fresh with all of its new updated features, allows for a huge fan base with the numerous platforms that is it on, is designed for people of all ages and is free for anyone to play. These are the reasons that Fortnite Battle Royale is so popular around the world.

This game is brining back those late night fort seshes with the boys, by having four people come together and dominate 96 other people including but not limited to some 5 year old who’s mom just let him download the game.
