What in the hell?

America is known as the land of the free and the home of the brave, but now it should be the land of the people free to do stupid things. Currently there are so many random and strange events taking place that make you just want to ask yourself, what in the hell is going on? The rest of the world already believes that Americans are some of the dumbest people in the world, and we are not helping ourselves when it comes to changing this stereotype. Below are a couple of stories that show why we have earned this reputation. It’s ok to laugh or cringe after reading these, but keep in mind that even stranger events occur everyday. If things don’t change, we may end up like the characters in the movie Idiocracy. I know that I want to maintain our nation’s current average IQ, because I fear to imagine how this country can get any worse. It truly is time to make America great again, but in common sense instead of as a world power.

Idaho State University loses Plutonium

Everyone knows that plutonium is a dangerous radioactive material used to create nuclear weapons. With this in mind, you would think that schools would take great precaution when transporting and using plutonium. Somehow, the university manages to “lose” some of this plutonium. My question is how? Yes, they only lost a small sample, and it wasn’t enough to make a weapon out of it, but still, how does this happen? Someone was not doing their job. I fear the implications this has on our nation’s safety. If we are able to lose enough plutonium to make a dirty bomb, then terrorists won’t have a difficult time stealing or obtaining nuclear elements. What in the hell America? How does the government respond to this incident? It simply fines the university $8500. I think something else needs to be done to show the gravity of the situation. But what do I know? Wake up America! We are getting lazy and irresponsible, and this could cost us gravely in the future if we don’t change our attitude.

Black cat adoptions on the rise:

A strange fact that only the craziest of cat ladies know would be that black cats are the least likely to be adopted from shelters. On top of this, black cats are one of the most common colors of cats to frequent animal shelters, which makes this case all the more unfortunate – no pun intended. Being two-thirds less likely to get adopted than their feline counterparts, one has to wonder what is afoot.

As it turns out, it all comes down to a history of an association with witchcraft and bad luck. One would hope that in today’s day and age, people would recognize the ridiculousness behind these superstitions, but apparently not. People are still wary of their luck when it comes to black cats, even though there is absolutely nothing to base it on. On top of this, animal shelters across the United States are forbidden to allow the adoption of black cats during the month of October, lowering these innocent cats’ chances at a loving home even more.

During the spooky month of October, the pranksters and mischievous folk appear from the shadows to wreak havoc on everyday society. For some reason, one of their favorite tricks to pull is the abuse and needless assassination of black cats in attempts to send some sort of message. In an attempt to keep them safe, animal shelters don’t allow the adoption of black cats, but this doesn’t stop these people from kidnapping cats from their homes in order to carry out their gruesome shenanigans. Black cats are just cats like any other, and finally a movement has come forward to find these adorable creatures a safe and loving home. “When I volunteered at the humane society there were always a lot of black cats, but when we played with them they were always adorable. For some reason they have a negative connotation around them, but they were playful and cute just like any other cat.” states Pleasant Valley senior Ellie Spelhaug.

For some reason, ever since the release of Marvel movie ‘Black Panther’ there has been a huge surge in the adoption of black cats. Adoption centers have reported going from 50-60 black cats to having absolutely none, because they’ve all been adopted out an named after the characters.

So, in this incredibly unexpected turn of events, Black Panther has completely turned these cats’ luck around. Hopefully, this trend continues as all cats, regardless of fur color, deserve a loving home.

America has it all, from school officials managing to lose radioactive material to using black cats in cult rituals. How much more can people take before realizing that our country is going downhill? It’s time for a change. Now is the time to instill common sense in our children and teach them actual values like responsibility. If not, the data shows that crazier events are bound to occur.
