Pleasant Valley’s Spring Improv Night took place on March 28, 2019 and left its audience feeling entertained and satisfied.

At the beginning of the night there was a lot of anticipation in terms of what the teams would be able to accomplish this year. Four teams performed that night: WACIT, Hatrick, Kakistocracy, and PV JV.

Hatrick had won the Fall Improv Night, so the remaining teams were looking to raise the competition. Throughout the night, the teams participated in a variety of improv games where they had the chance to win over the audience

Putting on a production like Improv Night requires a lot of moving pieces. Sophomore Mason Barnes was the “board guy” while drama department head Bill Myatt supervised the entire process. Improv Night is typically run by Francis Dunbar, but with him being out, Myatt stepped in to assume the role. This was a last minute replacement, but nevertheless, the night ran smoothly and there were a lot of laughs.

Former board guy and current member of team WACIT, Jimmy Guest, explained his transition into improv. “I was always afraid of improv, and for the first three years of high school I was afraid to try it. My junior year I was offered board guy and it was a nice way to actually get into performing. being able to work with my teammates has been an experience I’d never take for granted,” he said.

Senior Antonyo Bagley, who is a member of team Hatrick, offered several sentiments regarding his final Improv Night. “It’s kind of surreal with that being the last time performing. Having one day to entertain others and make them smile is probably the biggest thing I’m gonna miss, because that’s what improv is all about,” he said.

While Improv Night a great opportunity for these aspiring actors to entertain, it is also a chance to help with the Student hunger drive. At every Improv Night there is a “Minute To Give It”:  each improv team goes around the theatre collecting money for a short time period for the Student Hunger Drive. This year they were able to raise around 300 dollars.

As the night came to an end, Hatrick was able to pull-off another victory. Improv Night’s competitive nature brings out the best of all participants, but it remains a great opportunity to have some laughs and enjoy.
