Lights, camera, action! The future is bright with six movies you can’t miss in 2023.

Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning, Part 1

As the seventh installment in the Mission Impossible franchise, fans can expect continued adventures and stunts of the beloved character, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise). Before COVID-19, this time was slotted for Mission Impossible 8, but that movie will arrive in theaters in 2024. Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning, Part 1 will hit theaters on July 14, 2023. 

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

Fifteen years later, Harrison Ford will reprise his role as Indiana Jones for one final installment, releasing June 30, 2023. Harrison Ford, an award-winning actor, has played Indiana Jones for 42 years. The movie will bring this franchise to a close, recalling reminiscent memories and adventures. 

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania

While this is only the second film with “The Wasp” as a title character, Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) and The Wasp (Evangeline Lilly) join forces once again for the third installment in the Ant-Man franchise. Marvel Studios kicks off their 2023 slate with this movie that follows characters after the events of “Avengers: Endgame.” Kang the Conqueror (Johnathan Majors) is the villain in this film following the TV Series Loki. This movie hits theaters on February 17, 2023.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie

People of all generations can appreciate the influence of Mario and the subsequent Nintendo games on video game culture. In this animated film, Mario (Chris Pratt) will join forces with other beloved Nintendo characters to join up against the evil Bowser (Jack Black). Nintendo has been cautious about releasing its intellectual property, but following the expected success of this film, Nintendo fans can expect more. “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” releases on April 7, 2023.

The Little Mermaid

Following the success of other live-action remakes of Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and Cruella, Disney is releasing their live-action remake of the 1989 film “The Little Mermaid.” For Disney fans of all ages, this is certainly a movie to go see in theaters on May 26, 2023. 

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

In Marvel’s second theatrical release this year, Chris Pratt reprises his role as Starlord along with the Guardians of the Galaxy. This franchise has brought comedy to the world of action superhero movies. This final installment in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise will premiere on May 5, 2023.

Jake Wilsted is currently a senior at Pleasant Valley high school and serves as the Business Manager of the Spartan Shield. At PV, Jake enjoys his involvement as President of Students for Political Action. Outside of school, he is actively involved in work and skiing. Jake works in operations and Chick-fil-A and is the captain of the Snowstar Ski Team. After high school, Jake plans on majoring in economics at Brigham Young University.
