The PV Girls’ Tennis Team remains undefeated as they rolled to a clean victory at the North Scott Invitational on Saturday, April 22. With a perfect 27-0 score, the team captured all 6 singles and 3 doubles titles at the tournament. Pleasant Valley competed against seven other teams present at the invite: North Scott, Davenport North, Des Moines Roosevelt, Camanche, Muscatine, Johnston, and Bettendorf.
PV’s lineup for Saturday consisted of Lily Feldman, Hannah Humes, Emily Nutt, Roshni Penmatcha, Kayla Nutt, and Abi Paravasthuramesh. The doubles pairings were Feldman/K. Nutt at #1, E. Nutt/Penmatcha at #2, and Humes/Paravasthuramesh for the #3 doubles flight.
In the #1 singles final, Feldman battled Naanep from Johnston for her 8-5 win. Feldman and K. Nutt also teamed for a solid comeback and 9-7 victory over Johnston’s Naanep/Heiser in the semifinals.
“I was really happy with how well [Feldman] and I were able to work together and how we didn’t give up,” said K. Nutt.
Simultaneously, the PV Boys Tennis Team hosted the Spartan Invite. They also swept and took the title with a 27-0 score. Sriram Sugumaran, Justin Sehlin, Vincent Gnad, Aditya Subramaniam, Kiran Marla, and Cameron Trentz each earned their respective singles crowns.
The boys’ doubles lineups were Sugumaran/Subramaniam at #1, Gnad/Sehlin at #2, and Marla/Trentz at #3. All three pairings won their championships, taking the doubles titles.
“Over these past years, each time I step onto the court, supporting my team and having fun brings a new thrill,” commented Kiran Marla, freshman.
In the upcoming weeks, the PV tennis teams will face Bettendorf, Davenport Central, and Davenport West in dual meets before entering post-season. Boys’ MAC will take place on May 4-5 and the girls will have their MAC on the beginning of the following week (May 8-9).
