With sweater weather quickly approaching, it is time to snuggle up with some popcorn and watch movies that will make you shake in your seat. Recently, a reproduction of Stephen King’s infamous It has taken the box office by storm. The horror movie of the decade shattered records with over $100 million in the first weekend. Senior Lucy Foley saw It for the first time Tuesday, and says, “I really liked how there were a ton of jump scares because it kept me scared the whole time anticipating what was going to happen next. I really loved everything about the movie. It was great, I highly recommend it.”

Also in theaters, Annabelle Creation has gotten approval from critics. The spinoff of the widely successful Conjuring films has been frightening Pleasant Valley students left and right. Sydney Foley, a senior who has seen the film four times already, says “Annabelle kept you on your toes because it wasn’t as predictable as most scary movies. It brought religion into play which really added to the creepiness. While the doll didn’t really do any of the scaring, the demon itself got the job done.” From Foley to the rest of the student body,  “(I) would definitely recommend it!”

Netflix also has ideal movies if one is looking to stay in for a scare. The Shining directed by Stanley Kubrick is a classic psycho and creepy film if jump scares and ghosts aren’t your thing.  The Sixth Sense with Bruce Willis is psychological horror with one of the greatest plot twists in any genre of movies. Zodiac, directed David Fincher, follows the story of Robert Graysmith, a cartoonist for the San Francisco Chronicle who is directly involved with the notorious unsolved serial maniac known as “The Zodiac Killer.” If one movie isn’t enough, it is time to start up the TV show American Horror Story with the first season titled “Murder House.” AHS brings all genres of horror into one and hits them all perfectly. From ghosts to demons, the Golden Globe winning first season is well worth the watch. Good luck sleeping!
